How to call Brazil from the US

Use +55, the two-digit area code, and the local number. Brazilian mobile and landline numbers have different lengths, so check the type of number before you call.

Brazil’s number structure

Landline
+55 AA XXXX XXXX
2-digit area code + 8-digit local number
Mobile
+55 AA 9XXXX XXXX
2-digit area code + 9-digit local number

AA and X are placeholders, not numbers to dial.

Keep the area code, then check the local number

Brazil’s country code is 55. Anatel’s numbering plan uses two-digit geographic area codes. A landline has eight local digits; a mobile has nine, beginning with 9. The country code and area code sit outside that local-number length.

The distinction matters when a number comes from an old contact record. Do not add or remove a mobile digit by guesswork. Ask the recipient for their current number with +55, or copy the international contact number from the organisation’s own website.

Clean up a copied number before dialling

  1. If it already begins +55, do not add 55 again.
  2. If you were given a domestic Brazilian long-distance number, ask for the area code and local number separately. Leave out the domestic access prefix and carrier-selection code when using +55.
  3. Keep the two-digit area code even when the local number looks familiar.
  4. Check that the local number has eight digits for a landline or nine for a mobile.

For a US phone service that requires an international access prefix, follow that carrier’s instructions. In Parlacall’s browser field, enter +55 and the rest of the number; do not put 011 in front of the plus sign.

Choose the calling method after you have the number

If both people can use the same messaging app, compare an app-to-app call first. To reach a Brazilian office, bank or ordinary phone, choose a service that supports that number. Your US carrier plan and a browser calling service have different billing rules.

With Parlacall, check the exact number below. Review the price, number type and available mode before you pay. A mobile and a landline can have different rates; a country-level starting rate is not an exact-number quote.

See the international calling options if you have not chosen a method.

If the call does not connect

First recheck the country code, area code and number length with the recipient. For a business, use its official overseas contact details. A correct format does not guarantee that a service supports the route or that an office is open.

If a quote is unavailable or the number is blocked, do not keep adding credit. Use another official contact method or ask support about the specific destination. For missing audio, check the browser’s microphone permission and your internet connection.

Check the rate for your number

Enter your +55 number, including its area code. The quote shows the number type, available calling modes and price per minute.

Parlacall connects a browser call to an ordinary phone number. You need internet access and microphone permission; the recipient doesn’t need Parlacall. Check availability before you add credit.

Questions before you call

Do I include a Brazilian domestic carrier-selection code?

Do not paste a Brazilian domestic long-distance prefix or carrier-selection code into the international format. Use +55 followed by the two-digit area code and the current local number. Ask the recipient to confirm the full international number if you are unsure.

Are calls to Brazilian mobiles and landlines priced the same?

Do not assume so. The destination and number type affect the quote. Check the full number before adding credit or comparing it with a country’s advertised minimum rate.

Does the person in Brazil need an app?

For a supported ordinary-number call through Parlacall, the person answers their telephone normally. The caller needs an internet connection and microphone access in the browser.
